I’m excited to announce that ParkVu is opening an office in Louisville, Kentucky. I’m sure that surprises more than a few people. In a blog post in the very near future I’ll get into the motivations and mechanics of our choice of Louisville over some of the more ‘traditional’ choices but right now what we really want to do is introduce ourselves to the ‘ville and start hiring.

ParkVu is a mobile consumer media company. We develop products for the Android, BlackBerry, Symbian and Maemo platforms along with OS X and Windows. We’re heavy users of Amazon Web Services and use a collection of different languages due to the platforms we support.

We’re immediately looking to fill the following positions based in Louisville:

Senior Software Developers (C#, Java, Objective-C, C++ or similar)

Tester/Quality Assurance Developer

Community Manager

Office Manager

Come celebrate with us:

When: 5 PM, Tuesday, March 9th
Where: O’Shea’s (map)
RSVP: Here

And if you’re interested in the any of the above positions, make sure you talk to Terry or myself on Tuesday or send an email to careers@parkvu.com. We look forward to meeting you.

We’re looking for a couple of people to join us at ParkVu.

ParkVu is developing software applications that deliver on the promise of the mobile Internet experience by giving users the freedom to access their data at any time from mobile devices. It is the developer of i2b, the first application to give BlackBerry users remote access to their iTunes library.

Everything we do is dependent on the cloud so you’ll get a lot of exposure working with the Amazon Web Services (EC2, SQS, SDB and S3).

The first position is for a mobile developer. You know your way around at least one platform (e.g. RIM or Androiod) and are open to exploring more. See: http://www.waterlootechjobs.com/jobseeker/jobdetails.aspx?id=2785

The second position is for a solid .NET developer. You’re comfortable with asp.net and WCF. See: http://www.waterlootechjobs.com/jobseeker/jobdetails.aspx?id=2784

Sadly no opportunities for Anaconda’s but it was the best “Opportunity” picture I could find.So we’re looking for a couple of people to join us at ParkVu.

First role would be for someone with .NET skills to work on a long term consulting project. The project itself is pretty crazy and has the potential to shakeup an industry. No really it does. Ideally we’re looking for someone who also likes the idea of financial modeling, market theory and the travel industry. The project is computationally intensive and runs on ec2 with heavy use of Simple DB. This role also has the potential to work on ParkVu’s core technology.

Next we’re looking for another .NET developer to join us at ParkVu. Again we work exclusively in the cloud, so you’ll get exposed to pretty much the full spectrum of Amazon services. Ideally you’re also open to dabbling in Java with mobile platforms/clients. We’d also definitely consider someone with Java experience who’s willing to dabble in .NET too. C++ is cool with us.

If you’re interested shoot us an email at info@parkvu.com or come out to MoFo

10 years ago, Gary Will and I facilitated a little get together called Ground Zero (this was pre-9/11). Basically the idea was ripped off from Round Zero in the valley: get pre-VC backed companies together to hang out, commiserate and support one another.

At the time the driver was a chasm between the “old guard”: Descartes, RIM, OpenText, Sybase and the new startups that were forming at the time. There was no agenda, a varied mix of attendees and beer. We offered to advice, connected to resources that help and supported and celebrated one another. We also mercilessly sponged free advice from any lawyer or accountant that happened to pass by accidentally.

For the past year that we’ve been working on ParkVu, I’ve often been reminded of the same dynamic between the startups and the old guard. Things are friendlier now then they used to be and RIM has been very approachable but ah, obviously we don’t have the same issues.

We’ve talking about getting together all the mobile startups, in Waterloo for beverages. Nothing formal, just hang out, get to know each other, etc… This isn’t yet another *-Camp, those all serve a valuable yet different purpose. This is just for early stage mobile companies to start to form a community.

We (ParkVu) will pull something together in the next couple of weeks, and I’ll post details here. Leave a comment if you’re interested in attending.

I’m a huge fan of Top Chef. So are my kids. Yeah that’s not entirely relevant but I needed to work the title concept in here some how. I mean otherwise it looks like I’m trying to drive readership with gratuitous shots of Padma. Note to self: Photoshop Colicchio out of the header and feature Padma in more blog postings.

Ok I guess it isn’t entirely irrelevant in the sense that on Top Chef, the contestants battle it out to prove to the judges that they’re the real deal. It’s the same principle for OCRI‘s Canada’s Top 10. Phew.

I’ve just been told that the deadline has been extended to Sept 11th, 2008 so if you’re a Canadian company looking for VC, there is still time to apply.
